pride

via

back in may, before i left to go get my sister in Puerto Rico, i stayed with my cousin, mekelle, and her husband, nick for a day because they were so kind as to give me a ride to the airport that evening.

well sunday was the day i was leaving, so i decided to attend church with them before i left. and i won't lie....i was a little whiney about it. not outwardly, but inwardly whiney. we went to sacrament meeting and i was bored out of my mind. {probably because of my inward whining} and i definitely did not want to stay the full 3 hour block. sigh.....

and then we got to relief society....and the lesson was on pride

excellent.

and i won't lie, i've been thinkin about that lesson ever since.
i've been wanting to write this blog post about it ever since.

ever since pinterest and the blogging world became a regular internet sensation in my life, i have found at times becoming rather jealous of other peoples things/lifestyles/talents/homes/clothes/bodies/you name it.... and i hate that.

i don't want to envy.
i just want to love what i have.
and i want to love other people and be happy for them for having what they have.
and i have gotten a lot better at it.

pride is a terrible thing that gets in the way of being happy. it's something everyone struggles with and is one of my biggest downfalls. it's the worlds biggest downfall.

this quote by C.S. Lewis from Mere Christianity is incredible and is something the lady shared when giving her lesson on pride that i will never forget:

"Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man. We say that people are proud of being rich, or clever, or good-looking, but they are not. They are proud of being richer, or cleverer, or better-looking than others. If everyone else became equally rich, or clever, or good-looking there would be nothing to be proud about. It is the comparison that makes you proud: the pleasure of being above the rest. Once the element of competition has gone, pride has gone."
